According to the Journal of Mid-life Health (2016), abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is the most common cause of hysterectomies for women who are in the perimenopausal age group.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, AUB is bleeding between monthly periods, prolonged bleeding or an extremely heavy period.

How long can it go on? Weeks to months.

What are some treatments? Birth control pills, intrauterine hormonal devices, and, of course, hysterectomies.
